Weight loss goal setting

Many of us are unhappy with our weight. We may be within the healthy weight range, but feel as if we are lacking energy, or our clothes don’t fit us. We don’t believe we look or feel our best. It’s all very well ignoring the mirrors or reflections, but if you want a change, there is no time like the present.

If you want something to happen, the reality is that no-one is going to do it for you. Even though I am an expert in Nutrition and provide weight loss programmes with proven results, you still need to have a goal in mind.

For that reason, I make it very clear to my clients that they need to remind themselves of their goals on a daily basis.

It is very easy to fall back into old habits if you don’t. Here are some suggestions if you feel you need inspiration:

  1. Organise a holiday, or a special party in 10 weeks time. You can even buy a dress that is 2 sizes smaller in the knowledge that if you follow the programme you can realistically lose 10-20lbs in 10 weeks.
  2. Book an appointment with a hair and make-up professional who can give you a make over followed by a photo shoot with a friend or professional photographer. We take so many photos on our smart phones, but fail to print them off, as they are often taken with our kids, our partners or our pets! Have a photo taken of you and you alone so that in years to come you can look back and be proud. I’m sure your parents or relatives or loved ones would be really grateful to have a new memento for their sitting room or mantel piece!
  3. Make a bet with a good supportive friend. Commit to saying you are going to do the programme and you will follow it through. There are companies that will keep monies in a holding account that cannot be touched for a period of time. If you lose the weight you can treat yourself. If you give up, the money can go to the charity you loathe, or the political party that is in direct opposition to where your values lie. That way you can’t even give up for a good reason!

I hope these pointers will help you realise that change is possible, you just need to take that first step and have a goal in mind. It takes 66 days on average to develop a new habit according to scientific studies. After that period of time the habit becomes automatic. You can learn how to eat healthy nutritious food and you will feel healthier for the rest of your life.
